CITY AND GUILDS CONFINED SPACE TRAINING

These qualifications are for those who must enter, supervise or manage confined spaces. They are short course single unit qualifications to suit various levels of risk and roles in confined space entry and are supported by EU Skills.

City and Guilds 6160-02 Award in working in medium risk confined spaces

This course is for those who work in a medium risk environment and includes preparing to work safely, entering and exiting medium risk confined spaces safely, using equipment and tools. The aim of this unit is to reflect the national occupational standard for a medium risk related confined space environment. This course covers both water and non-water industry areas.

Water: this may include working with potable water, sewage treatment processes, drain and sewer cleaning operations or where the operative is working in or near water or where a confined space is subject to surface water flooding

Non-water: this may include pharmaceutical, petrochemical, asbestos removal, vehicle manufacture and servicing, aeronautical, construction, communications, power, utilities, gas, electrical and mechanical engineering and some elements of work operations in mines, quarries and tunnelling.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Prepare to work safely in medium risk confined spaces.
  2. Enter and exit a confined space safely.
  3. Use equipment and tools safely.
  4. Follow working procedures and work safely.
  5. Deal with emergencies.
  6. Understand the principles of working in medium risk confined spaces.

This course is for anyone who works as part of a rescue and recovery team in confined spaces.

It includes preparing to carry out emergency activities, entering and exiting confined spaces safely, using emergency equipment, casualty recovery and handling devices in accordance with manufacturers' specifications, rescuing and recovering casualties, following procedures and working safely.

The aim of this unit is to reflect the national occupational standard for working as a rescue and recovery team member in confined spaces. This unit covers both water and non-water industry areas.

Water: this may include working with potable water, sewage treatment processes, drain and sewer cleaning operations, or where the operative is working in or near water, or where a confined space is subject to surface water flooding.

 Non-water: this may include pharmaceutical, petrochemical, asbestos removal, vehicle manufacture and servicing, aeronautical, construction, communications, power, utilities, gas, electrical and mechanical engineering and some elements of work operations in mines, quarries and tunnelling.

 Learning outcomes:

  1. Oversee safety checks of the entry and rescue teams prior to commencing work.
  2. Enter and exit confined spaces safely as part of a rescue and recovery team.
  3. Use equipment and tools safely.
  4. Follow procedures and work safely as a member of a rescue and recovery team.
  5. Understand the principles of working as part of a rescue and recovery team.
  6. Understand standard protocols for working in rescue and recovery teams.

 Delegates attending this course must have an in-date City & Guilds High Risk qualification  (6150-03 or 6160-03)
