Apple Construction Training

We have joined forces with Apple Construction Training to help bring industry courses to life through a scenario-based approach.

Apple Construction Training is an industry specialist providing all levels of training, across all areas within construction. It has three accredited training facilities and operates across the UK.

To support the effective delivery of the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) training courses taking place at the Southam centre, we loan the relevant equipment each month to create mock-up sites.

Challenge

The UK construction industry is a major sector within the UK economy. It generates almost £117 billion annually, employs around 2.4 million people and continues to grow, according to the HM Government Construction Industry Statistics.

However, the industry is suffering a skills shortage. It has an ageing workforce and a decreasing pipeline of younger workers. In fact, Construction News report that 22% of the current workforce are aged over 50 and 15% are in their 60’s. This is a real concern as recruitment into the industry is also challenging, with about one fifth of vacancies struggling to be adequately filled due to difficulties employing staff with the right skills, qualifications or experience.

Sunbelt provide equipment and services for many clients within this industry.

Solution

As part of this, Sunbelt has joined forces with Apple Construction Training to help bring the courses to life through a scenario-based approach.

This training focuses on enabling operatives and supervisors to work safely and effectively on public highways so the addition of creating a site layout adds significant value to the training package.

The equipment loaned has everything required to bring the course to life, it includes a full traffic management set comprising

Results

The use of the equipment on the course helps create a demonstration site for trainees to navigate and learn from. This is invaluable for learning, with higher knowledge retention and engagement coming from scenario-based training. It is also highly effective at practically bringing to life the type of work carried out within the construction industry and helping the younger generation to learn the vital skills necessary for a career in this field.

Helen Brown, Centre Coordinator from Apple Construction Ltd said, “Thank you Sunbelt team for monthly access to your Traffic Management equipment. This equipment supports the practical part of our Street works courses here at our Southam training centre.”

Where possible local Sunbelt teams hold its customers meetings at the training centre to help create further awareness of their important work tackling the skills shortage,

Sunbelt will continue its support and will collaborate across the industry to continue to add value in this sector.
