Mast Boom Lifts

A mast boom lift's a specialised access platform that combines features of both vertical mast lifts and articulating boom lifts. It's got a main vertical mast that lifts the platform straight up, plus an articulated jib arm that extends out from the mast. This hybrid design means you get the compact base and small footprint of a vertical lift, as well as the horizontal reach of a boom lift. It's perfect for jobs that need precise positioning in tight spaces where a standard boom lift might be too large.

While they both use a vertical mast as the main lifting mechanism, the key difference is that mast boom lifts have an extra articulating jib arm that extends out from the top of the mast. This jib offers horizontal reach, which standard vertical mast lifts don’t have. Vertical mast lifts only move straight up and down, so they’re simpler to use - but also more limited in where they can go. Mast boom lifts are a bit bigger and more complex, but they give you a lot more flexibility. You can position the platform to reach around or over obstacles, not just go straight up.

Mast boom lifts are particularly well-suited for indoor maintenance in tight spaces such as manufacturing facilities, warehouses with narrow aisles, retail stores and public buildings. They're great in environments requiring access above shelving, equipment or architectural features where direct vertical access is blocked. Common use cases include electrical installation, HVAC maintenance, painting in complex interior spaces, lighting replacement and general maintenance in facilities with limited floor space. Their precise positioning capabilities also make them valuable for detailed work in museums, theatres and other venues where both height and reach are required but space is restricted.

While they're mainly designed for indoor use, many mast boom lifts can be used outdoors on firm, level surfaces in good weather conditions. Electric models are most common and ideal for indoor use, but some bi-energy versions offer greater versatility for mixed indoor/outdoor applications. For extensive outdoor work, especially on uneven terrain or in harsh weather conditions, traditional articulating boom lifts or rough terrain models are generally a better choice.
