City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces (Medium Risk) (6160-09)

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical assignments. Delegates will be assessed through a mixture of theory and practical tests. 

Agenda:  

• Preparing to work safely in medium-risk confined spaces 
• Safely entering and exiting medium-risk confined spaces 
• Working safely and monitoring the work team to ensure procedures are followed 
• Dealing with emergencies 
• Understanding the principles of working in medium-risk confined spaces 
• Understanding standard protocols for working in medium-risk confined spaces 
• Understanding entry controller duties and responsibilities 
• Equipment checks and inspection, including gas detectors and escape sets 
• Assessments – both practical and written 

This two-day course is suitable for delegates who work or are preparing to work in a medium-risk environment, including those working as an entry controller/top person who controls the entry and arrangements for medium-risk confined spaces. It includes the duties of an entry controller, pre-entry procedures, preparing to work safely, using equipment and tools safely, entering and exiting medium-risk confined space, maintaining communications, and initiating and following emergency arrangements. 

Delegates must also be a minimum age of 18, medically fit to wear a breathing apparatus and be able to enter a confined space. Delegates should generally not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / confined spaces, vertigo, giddiness/difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.

Due to the nature of confined space work and the emphasis placed on communication, there is only the provision for the practical and knowledge assessments to be undertaken in English. City and Guilds do not permit interpreters for this course.

All courses will be delivered using the Hooded Style Escape Set (CF10/Cf15). If you require training on a “Mask Style Escape Set (PP10/PP15), then you will be required to be clean-shaven and notify the training team to provide you with a set. 

Following successful completion of the course, delegates' results will be audited by a City & Guilds quality assurance process. On completion, a Level 2 Award in Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces (Medium Risk) (6160-09) certificate will be issued (please note the quality assurance process may take up to 12 weeks).
