We are one of a few organisations able to offer FIT2FIT-approved training in the Qualitative method.

Qualitative face fit testing (QLFT), also known as the “taste test”, relies on the RPE wearer's taste response to detect inward leakage of the Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), i.e. to test the efficiency of the seal to the face. This test method tests give a subjective indication of the face fit, i.e. a pass or fail result.

Known as the face fit testing “train the tester” course, it’s based heavily around the HSEs INDG479, supported by the relevant “FIT2FIT Companion”. The course covers RPE Selection, inspection, donning & doffing, pre-use checks, fit test theory & limitations, the fit test methods, equipment, diagnostics and an introduction to the applicable legislation, ACOPs and guidance documents.

The course will cover:

Introduction to Respiratory Protective Equipment and Devices
Risk assessing the suitability and adequacy of RPE
RPE compliance with British and European standards
Forms and Properties of Health Hazards
RPE Assigned Protection Factors (APF), Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) & the EH40
Managerial and Supervisory considerations in regard to RPE and testing
RPE fit factors and nominal protection factors for tight-fitting masks
Full and detailed overview of disposable (FFP) masks, including correct donning, doffing and pre-use seal checks
Full and detailed overview of half-face masks, including correct donning, doffing, pre-use seal checks and relevant filters, including particulate, gas and vapour
Introduction to Powered Air RPE
Comprehensive understanding of all relevant legal Regulations and associated guidance, including COSHH, CAR, L5 ACOP, HSG53, INDG 479 and the fit2fit companion
Introduction to BSIF & fit2fit
Detailed understanding of the obligations and considerations needed for Qualitative Face Fit Testing protocols
Overview of Qualitative Face Fit Testing and when this may be required or utilised
Clear understanding of Face Fit Testing principles, equipment, and records
Explanation, demonstration and imitation of Fit Testing methods, best practice and compliance with the INDG 479
