How Mitie ensured operational continuity for two critical sites with temporary heating and hot water

As Mitie’s preferred supplier of rental equipment, our Temperature Control team delivered temporary heating and hot water for two sites while upgrades to their existing on-site capabilities took place.

Leading UK facilities management organisation Mitie support sites across the country, and in 2024 two of those sites required temporary heating and hot water while their existing systems were suspended during upgrade works.

As Mitie’s preferred rental equipment partner, we designed and quickly deployed a temperature control solution to ensure continuous operations during the works.

The challenge

During the site surveys, it was identified that each solution would need to be personalised to suit the existing architecture, average footfall, as well as the specific function and capacity requirements.

Site 1 required the delivery of space heating (LTHW) to maintain indoor temperatures and domestic hot water (DHW) for large accommodation blocks as well as for culinary purposes - supporting safe hygiene practices in the kitchen. Whereas site 2 solely needed space heating (LTHW) to be delivered throughout their building for worker and site guest comfort.

The solution

Following the site visits, we designed bespoke solutions for each location based on established parameters, then moved through to testing and installation. All of which was performed in a swift and efficient manner so the core infrastructure upgrades could commence as quickly as possible.

Site 1 featured 3x 500kW boilers alongside an 800 L/min fluid pump to provide the heating and hot water, and site 2 featured a slightly smaller setup due to the shorter requirement list, meaning a 300kW boiler delivered the heating capability together with a 200 L/min fluid pump. Both solutions were accompanied by appropriate hoses, adapters, buffer tanks, heat exchangers and fuel supply and management. Fortunately, the existing on-site system meant that we could plug directly into the native power capability, as well as their heating and hot water feeds - this further supported the fast and seamless transition to the interim solution.

The result

Following the commissioning, our experts remotely monitored each package using industry-leading equipment telemetry, ensuring everything ran smoothly and as required. By utilising the telemetry capabilities on our equipment, we were able to
track fuel usage and organise scheduled deliveries so that the solution was operational 24/7.

Also, by maintaining regular contact with the customer throughout, we were able to remotely adjust their solutions based on their local ambient temperatures so those on-site were kept at an optimum temperature despite plummeting outdoor winter conditions.

We are thrilled to be supporting Mitie under our preferred supplier agreement with first-class temporary heating packages for a number of their sites. Implementing these solutions has enabled us to showcase our ability to meet the varying demands of the facilities management sector, in this case deploying interim solutions that enable wider upgrades to take place to their core on-site systems.
