This course is designed to provide delegates with the knowledge to operate a Crawler Crane correctly. It covers the theoretical and practical elements and is suitable for delegates with limited to no formal instruction or training.

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical assignments. Delegates will be assessed through a mixture of theory and practical tests.

These will include:

  • Operating the crane safely and productively and responding to recognised crane signals accurately.
  • Positioning the crane correctly.
  • Altering jib lengths and associated safety devices.
  • Performing routine maintenance and making minor adjustments on systems.
  • Understanding safe-load indicators and duties charts.
  • Identifying the basic theory of power units, transmission systems and control systems.
  • Programming safe-load indicators.
  • Understanding how alterations to the radius change can impact safe working capacity.
  • Observing statutory regulations and Codes of Practice.
  • Gauging the effect of shock loading on structural strength, stability, and load displacement.
  • Recognising the principles of safe slinging, as well as the types and capacities of chains, slings, and lifting gear.

All delegates must have successfully passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test, often referred to as the touch screen test, within the past two years.

Delegates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Successful delegates will receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (on successful completion of the CPCS Technical Tests).

Companies that are CITB registered and meet their grant scheme eligibility requirements may be able to claim a short course duration grant. Please contact us for further information.
