Safe Slinging and Lifting Appreciation

This is a theory-based foundation course for anyone involved in conducting and/or managing safe lifting operations. This course is also intended as a prerequisite to practical training. 

The course will cover:

  • Legislation relating to lifting activities - Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, LEEA code of practice and LOLER 1998.
  • Lifting operation planning - correct equipment use, assessment of environment and loads.
  • Correct use of standard lifting accessories safely (shackles, wire rope slings, eyebolts, hooks, plate clamps, chain slings, slings).
  • Pre-use inspection of common lifting accessories.

During the training, various types of equipment will also be covered, such as Polyester round slings, Polyester web slings, Chain slings, Wire rope slings, Shackles, Plate clamps, and Eyebolts.

This course is aimed at delegates responsible for managing or risk-assessing lifting operations and, as such, require background knowledge of lifting operations and equipment (including supervisors in charge of workers using lifting equipment).

Delegates must be over 18 and have basic spoken and written English skills.

Successful delegates will receive a Spanset certificate valid for 3 years.
