Crowd Control fit for a Prince

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was held on the 19th May 2018 in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

As well as wedding guests the couple involved members of the public by inviting 2,640 people to the grounds. From this vantage point the guests were able to watch arrivals at St George's Chapel and the carriage procession as it departed from the castle. Those invited included:

  • 1,200 members of the public
  • 200 people from a range of charities and organisations
  • 100 pupils from two local schools
  • 610 Windsor Castle community members
  • 530 members of The Royal Households and Crown Estate

The Challenge

To manage the number of guests and media present, the Royal Wedding team required an experienced equipment supplier. They needed expert input for crowd control and safety measures whilst ensuring a reliable and flexible supply of the relevant products.

The Solution

We have worked on a number of high-profile events and were well placed to support the logistics over a two week period. Our team worked closely with the event organisers to adapt to ever changing needs. They had a daily meeting and often changed the equipment levels due to fluctuating visitor numbers.

The placement of the barriers was also continuously monitored, and a dedicated team altered the location of them daily to accommodate the large crowds gathering in the area leading up to the day itself.

Management of crowd control was particularly challenging for this event due to it being located within a busy town centre already so disruption to the local community had to be minimised throughout.

Overall, we provided:

  • 7,100 crowd control barriers
  • 20 euromats
  • 20 lighting towers
  • 25 portable toilets

Despite the global spotlight on the event, our team remained focused, professional and helped manage large numbers of people daily, through delivery of the best equipment based upon the team’s expert knowledge of crowd control measures.

The Results

The Royal Wedding was a great success. Everyone who attended was kept safe and the disruption was as minimised as possible to the local town. Our customer was extremely happy with the services we provided.
