This Abrasive Wheels Awareness course is designed to offer delegates in-depth knowledge about safety measures for abrasive wheels, including potential hazards and associated risks, the importance of wheel marking systems, the selection and safe fitting of abrasive wheels in accordance with manufacturer’s guidance and current legislation.

Agenda:

  • Introduction to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER 1998) and the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP)
  • Hazards and risks arising from the use of abrasive wheels
  • Abrasive wheel marking systems – methods of marking abrasive wheels with their type, size and maximum operating speed
  • Safe storage, handling and transport of abrasive wheels
  • Correct abrasive wheel assembly, ensuring they are properly balanced and fit for use
  • Damaged or faulty wheels and equipment
  • Effects on health - silica dust and hard arm vibration
  • Safe use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

This course is for any delegate who operates, supervises, or manages the use of abrasive and grinding wheels, cut-off saws, bench top cut-off saws and angle grinders.

Delegates must also have basic spoken and written English skills.

Successful delegates will receive a Sunbelt Certificate of Attendance valid for 3 years.
