This Abrasive Wheels Awareness course is designed to offer delegates in-depth knowledge about safety measures for abrasive wheels and diamond blades per manufacturer’s guidance and current legislation.

The course also includes the risks associated with exposure to silica dust (Respirable Crystalline Silica) generated by many common construction tasks including cutting, drilling and grinding and outlines the requirements for effective dust management.

Agenda:

Diamond blades:

  • Blade specification (hard & soft bonds), marking system and its construction
  • Mounting a diamond blade
  • Theory of wet cutting and dry cutting
  • Fault diagnosis - undercutting, segment loss, dull blades

     

    Abrasive wheels:

  • Bonded abrasive products - EN 12413
  • Wheel specification & marking system
  • Inspection and recognising damaged or faulty wheels
  • Mounting an abrasive wheel

Effect on health:

  • Silica awareness and risks from silica dust
  • Dust management and control solutions
  • Noise
  • Hand-arm vibration
  • Control measures - PPE and RPE, hazard awareness

This course is designed for any delegate who is required to operate angle grinders (fitted with cutting or grinding wheels), cut-off saws or bench-top cut-off saws as well as users of diamond blades.

Delegates must also have basic spoken and written English skills.

Successful delegates will receive a Sunbelt Certificate of Attendance valid for 3 years.
