See Course Dates

This course is designed to teach delegates to operate a Rough Terrain Forklift correctly. It covers the theoretical and practical elements and is suitable for delegates with limited to no formal instruction or training.

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical assignments. Delegates will be assessed through a mixture of theory and practical tests.

These will include:

  • Safe, competent use of the Rough Terrain Forklift.
  • The role and responsibilities of the plant operator.
  • Pre and post-use checks, including shutdown and securing procedures.
  • Travelling and manoeuvring with the machine safely over a range of terrains, including steep inclines and undulating surfaces. This also includes loading and unloading procedures relating to travel.
  • How to transfer, lift, place and remove loads securely.
  • Risk assessment, hazards, underground and overhead services.
  • Relevant regulations and legislation relating to the use of the machine, manufacturer’s requirements, and the operator's handbook.
  • How to maintain safe and tidy working areas.

All delegates must have successfully passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test, often referred to as the touch screen test, within the past two years.

Delegates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Successful delegates will receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (on successful completion of the CPCS Technical Tests).

Companies that are CITB registered and meet their grant scheme eligibility requirements may be able to claim a short course duration grant. Please contact us for further information.
