Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL) - Rigging and Lifting of Loads at Height
For telecoms engineers, lifting and rigging loads on infrastructure such as towers and masts can be a daily activity involving operations at height.
Spanset’s two-day MBNL rigging course has been designed to give new and existing telecoms engineers the necessary practical skills and knowledge to safely conduct lifting and rigging of loads such as a range of microwave antennas, PCN sectors and associated steelwork whilst working at height.
The course will cover:
- Legislation appropriate to conducting lifting activities.
- Planning of a lifting operation including assessing the load, incorporating weight, centre of gravity and any safety hazards, correct equipment selection, and assessing the environment
- Practical selection and safe and correct use of common lifting accessories (slings, shackles, chain slings, wire rope slings, plate clamps, eyebolts, hooks)
- Pre-use inspection of common lifting accessories, pulleys, safe lifting kit & equipment control
- Personal safety & potential misuse of equipment
- Completing a lifting plan/Risk Assessment Overview of lifting activities & location.
- Communication at ground level and height & managing exclusion/drop zones & tool tethering
- Selection of equipment for Lifting and Work at Height (Strengths and characteristics).
- Planning and execution of lifting tasks at height, including rigging
- Installation and use of davit ( Derrick ) system
- Basic knots, Hauling lines, Pilot Lines and Braking Systems
- Pulleys (Z Rigs and mechanical advantage). Safe Lifting Kits
This course is aimed at new/existing telecoms engineers.
Delegates must be over 18 and have good spoken and written English skills.
Delegates must also be able to certify that they are physically fit and have no medical conditions that might prevent them from carrying out lifting techniques.
Successful delegates will receive a Spanset certificate valid for 3 years.
