REGIONAL SOCIAL IMPACT COMMITTEES

Supporting communities across the UK

Our network of Regional Social Impact Committees was established in 2022, guided by our Social Impact Team in line with our strategic plan, but managed at a local level by our people on the ground.

These teams have an Exec Sponsor and a Volunteer Team Leader, and are made up from people from all walks of life across our operations, who care passionately about giving back. We invite you to be inspired by the achievements of our Teams in Scotland, the North, the Midlands, the South, Wales and the South West, in supporting local community initiatives that matter to them.

We have:

- Set a clear direction through Our Planet Sustainability Plans and Social Impact Policy

- Grown the central Social Impact team, assigning key project managers to drive progress in our strategic focus areas

- Developed key strategic partnerships across the education, justice, defence and charitable sector to support smaller, local charities – helping them have a tangible, and wide-reaching impact

- Built a network of five Regional Social Impact Committees to engage our 3,000 plus workforce and supply chains so we can target our support and tap into what is needed locally

- We truly believe that by helping people into sustainable employment through enhancing environments, supporting education initiatives and helping to enhance skills we can have a positive knock-on effect across multiple areas of society. This all helps to create local resilience and a more sustainable future for all.

Regional Social Impact Committees

Our teams deliver services across the UK every day so the potential for us to have a positive social impact is vast. We know each of our Sunbelt Rentals colleagues has a local cause or charity close to their heart and that the make-up of the areas we operate in differ significantly in terms of the support they need.

This led to the launch of our Regional Social Impact Committees (RSICs) whose role is to target our social impact, harness the support and passions of our local colleagues and build sustainable relationships with the local community to ensure we are having the most impact possible.

Since spring 2022 we have built five regional RSICs, one each for the following regions

Scotland
North
Midlands
Wales and South-West
South

The RSICs are sponsored by a Sunbelt Rental Director or Head of Department and led by a dedicated member of the team. Membership numbers vary depending on the region, but they are open for anyone to join who is passionate about making an impact. All we ask is that participants are actively involved in creating and running local initiatives so together we can make a difference.

Crucial to the set-up of the RSICs was their first task of carrying out a Community Needs Assessments for their areas. These were broken down to cover main City hubs across the region to cater for the significant differences and need of each area. The RSICs were guided by our central Social Impact team who are experts at completing Community Needs Assessments, clocking up more than 40 years’ experience between them.  Now fully complete, the Community Needs Assessments enable us to target our support effectively and trend for areas where we can have the most impact across the Regions. This has culminated in the production of strategic Regional Plans.

Our RSICs meet as a minimum every eight weeks, to progress the Regional Plans, creating meaningful and impactful change for their regions. They inspire our local teams and engage with the depots to bolster our involvement. All projects are inputted into a plotter which maps and scores the potential impact it will have. This helps us to stay focused on having the most impact possible.

Since their launch earlier this year we have already seen phenomenal success, with many local charities and community residents feeling the benefits.

As we progress the journey of RSICs we will be strengthening further our support and recognition of their great work, as well as progressing the governance and communication surrounding them.

Our Case Studies

Taking on the Cumbrian Challenge 2023 to support Walking With The Wounded

In 2023, Sunbelt Rentals was back for another Cumbrian Challenge, supporting our strategic partners Walking With The Wounded (WWTW).

Established in 2010, WWTW is a leading military charity that focuses on rehabilitating those veterans who are mentally, socially, or physically wounded, by helping to get them back on their feet.

This annual flagship fundraising event brings together individuals, organisations, and companies to raise money for those who need support, with the aim of getting them and their families the help they need.

Walking With The Wounded - Blue Monday Mental Health

We are proud supporters of Walking With The Wounded (WWTW), a leading military charity which has been changing lives and helping those who have served since 2010.

The WWTW team carries out vital work across the UK to support those struggling to settle back into society. This could be simply due to missing the wrap-around support network they were previously part of,  or perhaps due to hidden mental or more visible physical wounds from their time serving.

At Sunbelt Rentals we recognise the challenging path ex-service personnel may face and are absolutely committed to supporting veterans in their new lives via our international Veterans 4Rs Programme. Our aim is to provide appropriate Resources, Recruitment, Recognition and Retention support to help people from all areas of the Defence Community thrive in their new careers.

Sunbelt Rentals Big Winter Donation Drive

In 2022, Sunbelt Rentals launched its first, national Big Winter Donation Drive. Led by its network of internal Regional Social Impact Committees (RSICs), who deliver social impact locally to depots, the Big Winter Donation Drive supported different charitable causes each month from October to December.

Helping a Glasgow food bank strengthen its ability to deliver crucial services to the community

Carntyne Riddrie is a not-for-profit food bank serving people in one of the most deprived areas of Glasgow. Bolted on to the Carntyne and Riddrie Credit Union it helps the local community by giving food to those who need it. It is non-referral based so anyone can just turn up and it supports thousands of people each year. The food bank is run by a team of volunteers and relies solely on donations to operate.

A crucial part of Our Planet sustainability plans is to create skills, education and employment opportunities that help shape a better future for those involved and builds upon creating a more responsible future for our planet, our people and our communities.

Chapter One Online Reading Programme

We have joined the global effort to improve literacy for all by partnering with the charity Innovations for Learning through their Chapter One programme. A significant focus of Our Planet sustainability plans is to help give young people the best start to life and a fair chance to build a great future.

The Recruitment Junction charity

From all our nationwide depots we actively reach out within local communities to find ways we can generate social impact, providing support where it is most needed. One of our focus areas is social equality and improving opportunity and equality for those who are reforming themselves and trying to transform their lives.

Sunbelt Rentals is proud to support young people across the UK. Whether it be getting an education, building a career or helping their mental and physical wellbeing, we are passionate about changing young lives for the better. It is also important that we make a difference where we operate and regularly work with our clients or industry partners to provide much needed support to smaller charities or causes near to our hundreds of depots nationwide.
